During the past few years however, we have seen substantial changes in cost that affect our shipping rates.
***FedEx:” These changes reflect incremental costs associated with the challenging operating environment, while enabling FedEx to continue investing in service enhancement, fleet maintenance, technology innovations, and other areas to serve customers more effectively and efficiently”
Amidst all of these increases, we have managed to keep our Overnight and Free2Day shipping rates the same. However, due to the most recent round of rate hikes, we are unable to continually absorb the shipping costs. We will be updating our shipping rates as well.

We will post new updates here as soon as we can. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. We hope to get everything resolved as soon as possible.
]]>Dear King Koi Goldfish Family,
As news continues to roll out about the changing circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and our governments responses to the crisis, we would like to update you on how we will be responding to these new challenges.
Like all of you, we have been closely monitoring news and information coming from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO). Also like all of you, we want to do what we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19
We intend to stay open to the public as long as possible. However, the situation changes daily (sometimes hourly) so at any time, we may be asked by public health officials to revise our action plan. While we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service, we will work to minimize the impact to you.
In an effort to protect our staff and customers alike, King Koi Goldfish has made some very difficult decisions. Outlined below are the temporary changes that will be implemented;
On a personal note,
While the health and safety of our animals has always been a top priority, we have always considered our staff and customers to be part of the family. As a family run business with our children growing up around our animals and in the store, family is our reason for being. As such, we want to protect our family as much as we can and do things to keep them safe and out of harm's way.
Please be patient with us as we navigate these uncharted waters together. We are facing many challenges for the first time. Daily, we are struggling to find regular business supplies for our store. Furthermore, many of our vendors are out of stock on products. There are shipping delays for all imports and international flights are being canceled left and right. While we are figuring out how to deal with all these challenges, there may be some delays and inconveniences. We appreciate your understanding and patience with us in these challenging times.
Also like many of you, our children's school has been closed so Lauren and I are working around additional childcare responsibilities as well.
We want to thank you for all your support and patience. If our doors must close, our businesses expenses will not stop. I presume all small businesses like ours will struggle and many will not survive. We want you to know, our family deeply appreciates your support. We know you always have a choice and we appreciate you choosing us.

In early March, I spent just over a week in Thailand visiting close to a dozen farms and picking the best specimens to bring back to the US. I also visited the famous JJ Market Fish Market. We will be releasing the fish from my recent picking trip next Friday, 4/5/19.
Here is me picking some amazing double chinned Lionchu at a Thai farm specializing in Lionchu. I bought several boxes in a few sizes. I was really impressed with the intensity of the colors from this farm. The body and head shape was extremely nice as well.
Picking Thai Buffalo Head Ranchu juveniles. These guys are just starting to develop their trademark buffalo cheek looks. Take a look at the body on these. Great back shape, tail tuck and overall body conformation. I've not seen too many of these in the USA up to this point. The farmers were telling me these are adapted from the Japanese Top View Ranchu. You can see many similarities in the bodies and shape of them.
The highlight of my trip was visiting this farm in Thailand. They produce some of the best Orandas in world. These TOP grade Thai Orandas have near perfect body conformation and would be potential show winners in any goldfish show. Huge powerful tails with folds as is common with Orchid Tail types however the farm branded them as Peacock Tail. The body on these guys are super impressive. When I saw them swimming in the pond, I was already impressed but when the pulled them up and put them in the tanks, I was blown away! While these guys are not cheap, I do believe you are getting what you pay for here.
This farm had some beautiful orandas to pick from. I was able to take my time and pick only the fish I wanted here. Hidden in a back pond in deep green water, was this pair of super RARE beautiful Telescope Eye Thai Orandas. The farmer didn't really want to let these go, but we were able to convince him! He had some others that he was willing to let sell but these 2 he really wanted to keep. The good news is, we were able to buy them and the farmer was happy with the compensation! Good day for all!!!!
Another farm specializing in Thai Oranda. I bought a good amount of goldfish from this farm and even picked up a few special orders. Check out the amazing PANDA Oranda. This one was a large size and had kept its colors beautifully. I also picked up a batch of Thai Ranchus. I had visited other farms and purchased Lionchu and Buffalos but these are traditional Thai Ranchus. I thought they were beautiful and had big chubby cheeks.
This was the biggest Oranda I saw in Thailand. They said it was a 1.5 year old Thai Oranda that had blown up to about 12-13”. It was incredible.
This Ranchu was about 9”. Not for sale but just an incredible fish.
Here's 1 days work on my farmers tan after getting roasted in the sun. 90+, full sun, bent over a pond with the sun reflecting off the water.
This is basically the largest swap meet you will ever visit. You WILL get lost in all the stalls they have. Its endless. There are a million better travel writers out there that can tell you all about it. The only thing I will elaborate on is they have a rather large fish market off the the side. Its a little hard to find as its not really attached to the main market but more in the parking lot of a shopping mall that is adjacent to the market.
To get to the market, I took the public transit “To Mo Chit.”
There are numerous goldfish stalls and always plenty of goldfish to look at. I got some pictures of the better stalls. While there was significant volume of goldfish, I wasn't that impressed with the overall quality of the fish at the market. I think the fish we have at King Koi Goldfish is far superior to what they were selling. Might be a little bias!
Proof I was here
They had a large assortment of tropical stalls. The dinosaur in this tank was well over 6ft.
Whats a trip to an Asian fish market market without the fish in bags pictures!
My first night we went to an all you can eat seafood buffet. You would catch your own live shrimp in these tanks, dunk them in ice water to knock them out then grill them at your own table. A little brutal for me, but the rest of my party didn't hesitate to “go fishing.” The best part...all you can eat seafood was bout $10 USD.
In Thailand there are 7-11s everywhere. Its similar to Taiwan so that wasn't that big of a surprise for me. Quick breakfast we grabbed on the way to the farms. Thai Cheese Hotdog and Thai Lays chips. I really liked this flavor. I tried a bunch of flavors and some...I wouldn't buy again, but these were the business.
We met with some family and they insisted we eat at this restaurant. They told me it was one of the best and most famous restaurants in all of Thailand. I thought the food was excellent but my favorite part was they had several servers assigned to our table. Basically every time I took a sip of my drink one of them refilled it...then when I ate some rice, another guy was spooning more onto my plate. Talk about service! Needless to say, I ate and drank more than I should have!

Our Pan fish were exported to Taiwan where they were held for a number of weeks before we brought them to the USA. They have been in our care since late November. It is our continued mission to ensure we provide the healthiest fish to our American customers. We purchased these fish before the account making these allegations was even created.

The support we were receiving with UPS and the quality of service they were providing to our packages over the past year have all be demanded that we change shipping providers. It was bad enough that for the past year and a half, we have been driving our boxes directly to the sort facility over an hour away because if we dropped it off at our local facility, we were getting an unusual amount of damaged packaged and DOA.
So far, our FedEx rep has been excellent in providing us with all the tools we need to continue to provide shipping of live fish to you!
]]>
Currently, we have the assorted or Dealers Choice 7" koi avalialbe for sale and the individually listed 16" nisai koi for sale.
Koi can currently be shipped via FedEx or via Air Cargo. Air Cargo rates are standard $65 per box which fits up to 6 of the 16" koi or up to 50 of the 7" tosai koi.
Please check back as we continue to add inventory and update functionality. We hope to make this as seamless as possible and provide an easy and smooth sales transaction on our website.
Please feel free to provide any feedback on either the fish or the process for ordering. We are open to feedback to help us improve our service.
Thanks,

]]>With that in mind, we have heard you!!! Going forward, King Koi Goldfish will establish a regular schedule of times and days for uploads of new inventory. Now you wont have to worry about missing the latest rare and one-of-a-kind fish or not knowing when we will be adding new fish to the website. Dont forget to add a reminder to your calendar. We will have alternating times so you on the EAST COAST will have the same opportunity as those on the BEST COAST...I mean WEST COAST. ;-)
Thank you as always for providing us feedback. We are always looking to improve our service and integration into the community.

Mardel Clout is a VERY powerful, potentially dangerous drug comprised of 2 main active ingredients.
]]>
I have seen a lot of posts recently about Clout by Mardel. I have carried Clout in store and also online for well over 2 years so I figured I would do a quick breakdown of Clout, what its made of, what its for and how to use it safely.
Mardel Clout is a VERY powerful, potentially dangerous drug comprised of 2 main active ingredients. The active ingredients per tab of Clout, as listed on the Mardel website are;
190mg Metronidazole (5 grams/tonne or 5ppm)
7.8mg Trichlorfon (about .2 grams/tonne of water or .2ppm)
Im not going to discuss Metro too far in depth here as its a relatively common drug and can be used in bath and ingestion applications. These are readily available in the marketplace and can be purchased here. HexShield and Metro+.
Trichlorfon however is a drug not discussed too often in the goldfish community. I can tell you its the drug of choice when combating illness in many farms across several countries. In Japan, many koi farmers routinely use Trichlorfon for treating koi illness. In China and Taiwan, Trichlorfon is also the treatment of choice for many farmers.
What is Trichlorfon? Trichlorfon, also known as Dylox is an organophosphate and a neurotoxin. It has many common applications as a commercial insecticide. When used correctly, it is effective against flukes, lice, leeches, worms and many external parasites including ich. It is also toxic to snails, invertebrates and crustaceans. When used incorrectly, it can quickly become toxic and lead to death or severe to permanent damage to your fish. Signs of overdose are bent spine and wiplike swimming from which the fish may never recover and of course death. Trichlorfon also degrades quickly and become unstable in higher temperatures and higher pH. One last scary thing....its also a known carcinogen.
Here is a Trichlorfon treatment gone horribly wrong: Link Where over 100 fish die at public aquarium due to overdose.
Ok, so now that I have scared you, here's how you use Clout without killing your entire tank. Clout, as shown above has a Trichlorfon concentration of about .2 ppm if dosed according to the bottle. Advanced hobbyist recommend dosing between .5-1 ppm so as you can see, Clouts dosage is much lower (safer) so there shouldn't be much of a chance of overdose. Typically, 1 dose is enough to rid the tank/pond of the infestation but a recommended follow up treatment a few days to 1 week later should break the life cycle.
Here are some of my notes from using this product. Clout is a good medication to keep in the toolbox. In most cases, praziquantel and formalin will take care of the issues you are dealing with but there will be times, you will come across a parasite or fluke infestation that is either prazi resistant or just cant be treated with prazi. In these cases, Trichlorfon is a good option. I would not recommend using Trichlorfon as a first step or a cure-all as it is a neurotoxin afterall. Many years ago, Trichlorfon was used excessively and there were some resistant flukes and bugs so many hobbyist found prazi to be more effective. But the more you talk to oldtimers in the hobby, the more you realize that it all goes in cycles. What I like about Clout is that it is easy to measure and use because it comes in tablet form. The tablets make it very difficult to overdose. Also the low dose of Trichlorfon per tablet make it extra hard to OD. Whenever you are dealing with commercial products the manufacture will cover themselves and the meds will almost always be watered down. The majority of the tablet is actually Metro. After you dose the tablet, there you will have a lot of white powder metro at the bottom of the tank. Your goldfish will probably eat it and poop white the next day. Dont be alarmed. Metro ingested is basically the same as Hex Shield by New Life Spectrum. Its good for treating internal parasites if the regiment is kept up for a few days (3). Clout will give your water a slight blue tint for a few hours. Clout does degrade quicker with light so I would recommend turning off your lights when you dose. If you have a UV, make sure that is off as well or the medication is basically useless. Carbon will inactivate trichlorfon, so make sure you remove that as well. You can use salt with Clout. One last thing. Trichlorfon does go bad. The expired form of trichlorfon is toxic.
]]>We received our latest shipment and quarantine has been underway for just about a week now. So far so good. Nothing that catastrophic has occurred yet so thats always good news. (Aside from the 3 filter boxes that overflowed!!) This time, I decided to try rearranging my quarantine process a little and move Flukes treatments forward to right after the initial rest. I also shortened the initial rest period from 72 hours to 48 hours. At this point, I have already started flukes, parasite treatment round 1 and we have moved into treating for internal parasites with metro food and started treatment for external and internal worms. As I said before, so far so good.
One of the very rare treasures we were able to bring in this time are the Phoenix Eggfish. I am particularity impressed with the length of the fins. They really flow in the water and give the fish a very graceful swimming motion. I believe they are much more beautiful from top view, but as you can see, even from the side, they are fantastic to behold. Just an aside, from the top, the tail and fins really spread out and give a great shape to the fish, It appears to have rays spreading out from the body.
For some who dont like ranchus because of the oversize wen but still want a dorsalless fish, or those who love the long flowing veil or phoenix tail, this rare fish will make a nice addition. And who doesn't like being the only one with an envy-worthy rare fish?

]]>We have long carried Saki Hikari Fancy Goldfish foods. The purple bag aka Color Enhancing has been a part of our store inventory since day 1. Last year, we started carrying the green bag aka Balance. Now we also carry the red bag aka Extreme Color Enhancing. Ill break down a little of what makes the Saki Hikari brand so successful worldwide and what the differences between the food types are.
Saki Hikari is the top end fish food manufactured by the Hikari Fish Food brand. Hikari is widely recognized as the best food in Japan. For koi, Hikari has been synonymous with quality for decades. Most if not all Grand Champion koi have been fed or finished with Hikari brand foods. Hikari brand goldfish foods have been some of the most popular on the west coast. In the USA, Hikari has select products available for consumer purchase. Among those are the Lionhead, Oranda, Goldfish Excel, Goldfish Gold and Goldfish Wheat Germ.
Saki Hikari Fancy Goldfish line of goldfish have really taken off in the USA with the purple bag (Color Enhancing) being the only commercially available variety. Through a few of our own back channels, we have been able to carry the Balance brand (Green bag) for some time. Recently, we have been able to also start carrying the red bag (Extreme Color Enhancing).
What separates Saki Hikari from the other Hikari products is the "Hikari Germ." From Hikari;
""The scientifically developed Saki-Hikari diets utilize the finest quality ingredients we can find, including a patented, living probiotic. A merging of world-class technology, nutritional balance and patented ingredients allow us to bring you this revolutionary diet."Hikari Germ" is a strain of Bacillus bacteria which, when fed, proliferates itself inside the intestine of the koi offering many incredible benefits."
What this means is that there is a living strain of probiotic in the food that activates inside the gut of the goldfish after digestion that creates a digestive enzyme to improve the amount of food digested by the goldfish. In the next stage, the Hikari Germ prevents the spread of bad bacteria in the waste of the fish. In the final stage, the Hikari Germ continues to decompose and break down fish waste to improve water quality and minimizing the load on the filter. All of this means, your fish gets more nutrition from the food, wastes less food through waste and the excrement is broken down by the good bacteria in Hikari Germ to lessen the bio load of feedings.
Whats the difference between the foods?
Purple - Color Enhancing
The most popular Saki Hikari food in the USA. This food has high levels of carotenoids such as purified Astaxanthin and Spirulina to deepen and improve the red color in the fish without negatively impacting the white portions. This food also has high levels of Vitamin E to improve skin luster. This is especially important to create contrast in the skin of the fish. With high protein and fat levels, this food can also serve as a daily feeder and improve the overall size and girth of the goldfish as well. Click Here to Buy
Green - Balance
An excellent choice as a daily feeder. This food has high fat and protein levels to produce good body conformation and growth. The overall balance of vitamins and quality ingredients make this food a great choice for growth and boosting immune system. Click Here to Buy
Red - Extreme Color Enhancing
The most extreme color enhancing food on the market. Carotenoids include Spirulina, Marigold, Astaxanthin and Phaffia Dried Yeast. The extreme levels of Spirulina in this food guarantee an extreme and quick deepening of the reds and superior color development. This is a great finishing food for your fish. Mixing Extreme Color Enhancing with another Saki Hikari food at a ratio of 1:3 has been shown to dramatically enhance color development. Click Here to Buy
Just a few notes
Saki Hikari foods are meant to be fed on a continuous basis. The Hikari Germ can only be most effective if used without interruption as the primary source of food. You need to keep up the concentration of the probiotic in the fishs system to yield optimum results. Having a variety of foods to mix, such as Green, Red and Purple can improve palatability for the goldfish and keep feeding time interesting (as if they needed it)
Any tips would be great!!!

Short BodyTelescope Eye Butterfly Tail Goldfish
I have been very impressed with this last batch of butterfly goldfish we imported. This time, we were specifically looking for the short body variety. This group has nice deep bodies (short body) with high dorsal and nice wide spread butterfly tail. The colors are bright and intense. I believe they will deepen over time as well with some sun exposure.
Butterfly being my favorite, I am particularly selective when I am picking for myself. However, there are LOTS in this group I would be happy to put in my own pond. The ones pictured here are all just a random net swipe. They were not specially selected. I think its important to note that as this is a sample of what to expect.
Shoot us a line to let us know what you think about them. There are limited quantities. If you prefer a larger size, we have many 5-6" ones in stock as well. Or if you prefer smaller, we also have 3-4" size in stock.

If you liked last months smaller size ones, here are the larger sized ones. We will start releasing them for sale this Friday. There are some nice colors and great body conformation. Look for them this weekend to be uploaded. Limited supplies this time.
Mouse Head Calico Pearlscale. Large size. Note the vibrant colors and smooth pear like scales.
]]>Calico Cat Lion Goldfish - 花貓獅
Get ready for a new type of goldfish variety in the USA. Since our inception, we have always asked youall what are the kinds of fish you would like us to bring in. We get a lot of the staple, like, Ranchu, Butterfly, Oranda, Ryukin, sometimes we get less commonly requested types like Tosakin, Tamasaba, Demekins, Jikin. Less commonly we get hybridized fish like dragon/telescope eye “X” or Pom Pom “X”. We also take it upon ourselves to look around in China and Thailand for unique or new varieties or colors.
Recently, I got a request for a new type of goldfish. Actually, so unusual that I didnt even know what it was when I first got the pictures. I just assumed it was a Lionhead. Actually, its a hybrid of Lionhead and Calico Oranda. At first, I thought the shape of the fish was not aesthetically appealing and I thought Americans would not like this fish. But after watching it for a while and gaining a little more exposure to them, I actually think they will do alright out here. I also think its nice to introduce some new fish to US goldfish pool.
In my 1/27/18 shipment, I picked a batch of Calico Cat Lion Goldfish, or Flower Cat Lion Goldfish. After 2 weeks in quarantine, they have been doing well. Im going to keep them for another week at least before we begin selling them.
Be on the lookout for these new goldfish. They have great color like sakura, kirin and calico. Very sharp features and interesting shape. I believe they are more of a top view fish than a side view fish, however, that should not dissuade those who keep tanks as opposed to ponds from taking a look. This is a dorsel finless fish. It has a full wen like a Lionhead and a body that is mixed between a Lionhead and Oranda. On first appearance, it will strongly resemble a Lionhead, but will have more narrow tail tube with a longer, flatter tail.
I look forward to bringing these to market and allowing you to add something new to your collection. Look for pictures in the coming days.
